I don't know how people will react to this film if they don't know Camus' novel.It just makes me curious
'Alien': Ozone understands the eternal alien
I don't know the reactions of people who will approach this film without knowing Camus's book.I just want to.
I look back in awe at the opening scenes of François Ozon's interesting, very careful and faithful adaptation of Albert Camus' novel The Stranger, which is sometimes disturbing but always riveting.I haven't re-read Henry Miller.I don't think they will bother me.It is a way of protecting the good memories.Yes, I have gone back to a favorite author from my teenage years like Robert Louis Stevenson a few times and the enjoyment remains.
Ozone imagines Camus Algiers in black and white, a special photograph with a love of gray, reminiscent of old cinema.At one point, a character says that the heat is brutal, and I remember Meursault's statement in the novel that he says, "I killed a man I didn't know on the beach of Oran because it was hot."I can't see the suffocating heat in black and white.
The rest is very faithful to Camus' mysterious text.The main character doesn't show feelings, or at worst, doesn't have any.He is a stranger to the theater.He is not only a stranger to others.with a scary Arab woman.As is the semi-poor old man who has an absolutely co-dependent relationship with his dog, but who he still abuses.
There is also a lover who does not talk about his love for him, because he cannot keep this feeling from him, but he walks with him a lot, walks, takes a bath, feels good with him.This guy looks normal (Ozon also imagined him with a sexy touch), he does his bureaucratic work, he speaks very little, although he affects the related action, and he listens indifferently to the stories that others tell him.He doesn't expect anything, he doesn't want anything.he says: "Everything will be finished, I will feel alone, I wish that on the day of my execution, many people will greet me with shouts of hatred."
