US news anchor Savannah Guthrie posted a video online in which she choked back tears as she pleaded for her mother's release and demanded that her kidnappers provide evidence of the 84-year-old woman's life.

Nancy Guthrie disappeared from her home in Arizona last weekend in the middle of the night.

Authorities have indicated that they suspect he has been kidnapped and are working with the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) to verify the authenticity of the ransom demand for him.

Officials warn that Nancy Guthrie needs regular medication, or her life could be in danger.

"Our mother is the soul of our house, her health and heart are fragile, she lives in constant pain," the presenter elaborated.

"He has no medicine. He has to survive. We don't want him to suffer."

His sister Annie, for her part, adds that "the light has gone out of our lives."

"Mom, if you listen to me, we need you home. We miss you," he points out.

An extensive operation is underway

Nancy Guthrie, 84, was last seen Saturday night when family members dropped her off at her home in an affluent northeast Tucson neighborhood.

Members of her church noticed her absence Sunday morning and notified her family.The family called 911 and authorities launched a search.
