Isabel Díaz Ayuso, presidenta of the Community of Madrid, has announced that one of her first measures would be to modify the autonomous trans and LGBTI laws approved during Cristina Cifuentes’ term.
The PP parliamentary group in the Assembly of Madrid has registered two draft laws to modify the Identity and Gender Expression and Social Equality Law and the Comprehensive Protection against LGBTI-phobia Law in the Community of Madrid.
The proposed modifications include the banishment of conversion therapies, the elimination of the plan against bullying of LGBTI students in schools, the removal of teacher training on the LGBTI reality, and the disappearance of the LGBTI council.
These modifications will be approved urgently without the possibility of opposition amendments, with the aim of adapting the law to state regulations and guaranteeing the protection of citizens’ fundamental rights.
However, these modifications are considered to be cutting rights and represent a legislative setback.
Mónica García, leader of Más Madrid, accuses Ayuso of repealing the Trans Law and points out that these modifications are a setback in LGBTI rights.
The Minister of Equality, Irene Montero, reminds that the Community of Madrid has the obligation to comply with state regulations regarding LGBTI rights.
Yolanda Díaz, Acting Second Vice President, assures that there will be a State Pact in favor of LGBTI rights and freedoms throughout Spain.
